Miller, Member s /John Collins, Member s/Luther Taylor, Member Attest: s /Linda Martin, Clerk ACCEPT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EMPLOYEES OF THE MONTH—NOVEMBER, 2012— DANIEL DEMLER AND SARAH JANIS In a letter to the Board, Chief Charles Hurley stated that Sergeant Daniel Demler and Patrolman Sarah Janis were selected as Employees of the Month for November, 2012. The award is to recognize officers, civilian employees, on the South Bend Police Department who have demonstrated actions noted by supervisors or citizens from both a professional law enforcement position and in support of the community policing efforts with citizens of South Bend. Chief Hurley stated that Sergeant Demler was responsible for the apprehension of two (2) suspects one (1) hour after the crime occurred. The Chief explained that Sergeant Demler, along with a canine unit, traced the suspects to a home where they were sitting on a porch. He was able to identify them by witness descriptions, and took them into custody, solving a horrendous crime within one (1) hour of its occurrence. Chief Hurley stated that Patrolman Janis was traveling on Portage Avenue when she came upon an accident at a roundabout. She crawled into the car and applied emergency medical assistance on the victim and kept her calm so she wouldn't go into shock. Chief Hurley stated Patrolman Janis was covered from head to toe in blood. There being no further discussion, Mr. Cottrell stated the Board would accept the recommendations of Chief Hurley for filing. FILING OF MONTHLY STATISTICAL ANALYSIS REPORT — DECEMBER 2012 Police Chief Charles Hurley stated that the good news is that Part 1 crimes are down 20% for the year 2012. He noted he is not aware of any previous year with a 20% reduction. Chief Hurley commended the community citizens for their help and the Police Department for a job well done. Mr. Cottrell indicated that unless there were questions or objections by members of the Board, the statistical analysis report for the month of December, 2012, as submitted by the Police Department, would be accepted for filing.
