BILL NO. <br /> ORDINANCE NO. -7739-k 7 <br /> AN ORDINANCE BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF <br /> THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br /> AMENDING CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE 8, SECTION 2-123 <br /> COMMONLY KNOWN AS "REGULATION OF CITY-OWNED VEHICLES" <br /> STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br /> For the past several years, in an effort to bring better accountability <br /> and productivity to the city-owned vehicle fleet, the Common Council has <br /> passed regulatory ordinances. <br /> Presently, the City Engineer is required to prepare and file with the <br /> City Clerk an annual motor vehicle report on or before April 1st of each <br /> year. <br /> It is believed that changing the reporting dates in the annual report <br /> to better coincide with the annual budgetary review process would greater <br /> enhance the effectiveness of the information required. <br /> The following ordinance sets forth the necessary amendatory language to <br /> incorporate such changes. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows: <br /> SECTION I . Chapter 2, Article 8, Section 2-123 of the Municipal Code <br /> of the City of South Bend, Indian, is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> Sec. 2-123. Regulation of City-owned Vehicles. <br /> (a) On or before each-April-1-, July 31st, the City Engineer shall file <br /> with the City Clerk and annual motor vehicle report setting forth the <br /> following: <br /> (1) Name of department, subdepartment, bureau or office to which <br /> vehicle is assigned. <br /> (2) Vehicle information: Make and year; description, mileage as of <br /> Oantrary--}- June 1st of current calendar year of report; license number; <br /> city number. <br /> (3) Explanation of the use and need for all City vehicles. <br /> (b) The Controller shall include all vehicles to be purchased in the <br /> line item "Motor Vehicles" in the City budget and shall place them in the <br /> budget of the particular department or bureau to use the vehicle. <br /> (c) All City-owned and leased vehicles shall have inscribed on the <br /> front doors the seal of the City and the words "For Official Use Only." <br /> They shall have inscribed on the front doors and rear an identifying number <br /> not less than five (5) inches in height.
