QCommittee *.¢port
tub1ix 'Works an Vroprrtt Vacation Committee
The January 8,2001 meeting of the Public Works and Property Vacation Committee was called to
order by Council Member David Varner at 4:30 p.m.
Persons in attendance included Council Members Aranowski, Pfeifer,King, Varner,Ujdak, and
Kirsits,Joe Pietersak, Carl Littrell,Terry Bland of the &Intl) Zribunt, and Kathleen
Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney.
Dr. Varner noted that a memorandum has been received from J. Bernard Feeney of Lang,Feeney
&Associates, Inc.,dated January 2,2001 (copy attached) requesting that Bill No. 99-00 which is
a Bill requesting to vacate various alleys by Eddy and State Road 23 be continued until the January
22nd meeting of the Council. Pursuant to that request, Dr. Varner noted it would be continued in
Committee for further discussion.
The Committee then reviewed Substitute Bill No. 102-00 which is a vacation request for St.
Matthews Catholic Church. Mr. Joe Pietersak made the presentation. He noted that since the last
li committee meeting he las redesigned the project and has incorporated limited access points at the
request of the City.
Carl Littrell stated that he has reviewed the new design and agrees with this proposal.
Council Member Aranowski thanked the Petitioner for the extra effort put into this project to
resolve the issues raised by the City.
Following discussion, Council Member King made a motion, seconded by Council Member
Aranowski that Substitute Bill No. 102-00 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion
passed.
Under miscellaneous business, Dr. Varner noted that he is growing increasingly concerned about
the confusion often resulting from recommendations made by the Board of Public Works on the
same day that the Committee hears a proposed vacation. Too often the petitioner has not been
apprised of any conditions recommended by the Board. He noted that he would be meeting with
the Engineering Department, the City Clerk's Office and the Council Attorney to address these
concerns and then report back to the Committee.
There being no further business to come before the Committee,Dr. Varner adjourned the meeting
at 4:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Council Member David Varner, Chairperson
Public Works and Property Vacation Committee
KCF:kmf
Attachment
•
