(Cammitta ort: <br /> Qommunitj an (eonomie betbeloputent Qommittee <br /> The June 25,2001 meeting of the Community and Economic Committee was called to order by its <br /> Chairperson, Council Member Roland Kelly at 5:21 p.m. in the Council Informal Meeting Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: King, Varner, Aranowski, Pfeifer, King, <br /> Ujdak, Coleman, White, Kirsits and Kelly; Roberta Baxter, Rhonda Brown, Michael Beitzinger, <br /> Jerry Christensen, Richard Deahl, Dan Smith, Robert Hunt and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, <br /> Council Attorney. <br /> Council Member Kelly noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Bill No. 01-58 which <br /> is a request from Bowne of South Bend, Inc and BSB's wholly owned LLC Subsidiaries to have a <br /> five(5) <br /> year ar Pe rsonal property Y tax abatement request for the <br /> property located at 5021 F. Jay <br /> Nimt z <br /> P arkwa y. <br /> Mr. Michael Beitzinger reviewed his report dated June 13, 2001 (copy attached) which noted that <br /> the petitioner is a commercial and financial, state of the art printing facility. Their project call for <br /> the acquisition and installation of telecommunications hardware, prepress and plate making <br /> equipment, web and related printing presses, splicers, cutters, folders and automated stitching <br /> equipment for an estimated cost of$ 1.2 to $ 1.5 million. The project would create nineteen (19) <br /> new permanent full-time jobs. The report concluded that the petitioner meets the criteria for a five <br /> (5) year personal tax abatement under§ 2-84.2 of the South Bend Municipal Code. <br /> Mr. Richard Deahl, Dan Smith and Mr. Jerry Christensen, Vice President & General Manager <br /> made the presentation for the petitioner. They noted that the equipment would last approximately <br /> fifteen (15) years. <br /> Council Member Kelly noted that the petitioner has a beautiful facility. <br /> In response to a question from Dr. Varner, it was noted that one to two additional lines could be <br /> developed at the cost of$5 million per line. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Varner made a motion, seconded by Council Member <br /> Kirsits that Bill No. 01-58 be recommended favorably to Council.
