ommittoz port: <br /> Community & tonontir DtVelowitatt Qommittu <br /> The August 27, 2001 meeting of the Community&Economic Development Committee was called <br /> to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Roland Kelly at 4:50 p.m. in the Council Informal <br /> Meeting Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Aranowski, Pfeifer, Kelly, King, Varner, <br /> Ujdak, Coleman, Kirsits and White; Citizen Member Isabel Gonzalez, Jon Hunt, Mike Beitinger, <br /> Beth Leonard, Pam Coleman, John E. Coleman, Bob Luann, Mary Boo, Terry Bland of the <br /> outb Nutt' Zribunt,and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. <br /> Council Member Kelly noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Bill No. 64-01 which <br /> would transfer $ 450,000 among various accounts within the Department of Community and <br /> Economic Development. <br /> Beth Leonard made the presentation. She noted that the monies were from unspent monies within <br /> the Department. <br /> Dr. Varner inquired about the South Michigan Street acquisition and demolition. Jon Hunt stated <br /> that of the $300,000 for that project that approximately $ 80,000 would be recovered based on <br /> 20,000 square feet @ $ 4.00 per square foot. It would go through the regular redevelopment <br /> process including an open public bid process. <br /> Following discuss, Council Member Ujdak made a motion, seconded by Council Member Kirsits <br /> that Bill No. 64-01 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 63-01 which would establish Fund No. 426 TIF District- <br /> Central Medical Services. Beth Leonard made the presentation. She stated that a new TIF District <br /> was created approximately one year ago and that now that funds will be coming in that a separate <br /> account is required to be created. <br /> Following discuss, Council Member Ujdak made a motion, seconded by Council Member Varner <br /> that Bill No. 63-01 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 01-71 which is a five (5) year residential real property tax <br /> abatement request for the property located at 2639 West Jefferson Boulevard on behalf of John E. <br /> Coleman. <br /> Michael Beitzinger, Assistant Director of Economic Development, reviewed his report dated <br /> August 17, 2001 (copy attached). He noted that the petitioner plans to build a 1,886 square foot <br /> home which would be valued at$ 115,000.00. The report concluded that the petitioner meets the <br /> qualifications for a 5-year residential tax abatement under § 2-77.1 addressing single family real <br /> property abatement of the South Bend Municipal Code. <br /> Mr. & Mrs. Coleman and representatives of BL Buidlers stated that the development will be a <br /> "win/win" for all parties. They provided a sketch of the type of home construction (copy <br /> attached). <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Kirsits made a motion, seconded by Council Member <br /> Varner that Bill No. 01-71 be recommended favorably. The motion passed. <br />
