Committ z .wort: <br /> tommuniti an Qtonomir kki iopmeitt Committee <br /> The September 10, 2001 meeting of the Community & Economic Development Committee was <br /> called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Roland Kelly at 5:12 p.m. in the Council <br /> Informal Meeting Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Coleman, Varner, White, Pfeifer, Kirsits, and <br /> Kelly; Gerald F. Lerman, Michael Beitzinger, Terry Bland of the §oltUj ifittt4 tribunt and <br /> Kathy Cekanski Farrand, Council Attorney. <br /> Council Member Kelly noted that two (2) proposed resolutions would be heard together namely: <br /> Bill No. 01-73 which is a five(5) year personal property tax abatement request of Steel Warehouse <br /> Company, Inc. and Bill No. 01-74 which is a ten (10) year real property tax abatement request for <br /> Steel Warehouse Co., Inc. Nathan Lerman Trust and A & F Realty Company, for the property <br /> located at 2722 Tucker Drive. <br /> Michael Beitinger, Assistant Director of the Economic Development Division of the Department of <br /> Community and Economic Development reviewed his August 31, 2001 report (copy attached). <br /> The petitioner is a steel service center specializing in flat rolled, low carbon steel. They plan to <br /> build an addition of 40,000 square foot for expanded manufacturing, warehousing and related uses <br /> with a <br /> proposed ed con t r <br /> ucti <br /> on cost of <br /> $ 1.1 million. New manufacturing rin equipment p m <br /> e <br /> nt is proposed for the processing and handling steel and st eel products at an estimated of <br /> $4.5 million. <br /> Ten (10) new permanent full-time jobs would be created and 450 existing permanent full-time and <br /> part-time jobs would be created. The report concluded that the petitioner meets the applicable <br /> provisions of the South Bend Municipal Code for the requested abatements. <br /> Mr. Gerald F. Lerman, Vice-President of Steelware House, Inc. made the presentation. Mr. <br /> Lerman noted that despite the current state of the economy, that they would like to add to its <br /> product line and thereby increase its utilization of its existing manufacturing equipment and <br /> facilities. <br /> Upon a proper motion being made and seconded Bill Nos. 01-73 and 01-74 were recommended <br /> favorably to Council.
