Qommitt pot: <br /> tommunitv crati Commie Datiopittott Qtommitt*ez <br /> The October 8, 2001 joint meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee was <br /> called to order by its Chairperson Council Member Roland Kelly at 3:45 p.m. in the Council <br /> Informal Meeting Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Varner, White, Kirsits, Aranowski, King, and <br /> Kelly; Michael Beitzinger, Charles Fulmer, Jr., Melvin Reed and Kathy Cekanski Farrand, <br /> Council Attorney. <br /> Council Member Kelly noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Bill No. 01-81 which <br /> is a three (3) year real property tax abatement request for the property located at 918 South <br /> Michigan Street requested by Charles, Jr. and Tracie and Charles, Sr. and Faye Fulmer doing <br /> business as Miami Auto Glass. <br /> Mr. Michael Beitzinger, Economic Development Assistant Director, reviewed his report dated <br /> September 14, 2001 (copy attached). He noted that the petitioners provide a full line glass <br /> replacement services for automobiles and is currently located at 1430 Mishawaka Avenue. The <br /> p Y <br /> plan to construct a new 2 400 square foot facility at 918 South Michigan which has an estimated <br /> p � q tY g <br /> project cost of$ 150,000.00. The report concluded that the petitioner meets the provisions of§ 2- <br /> 79 of the South Bend Municipal Code addressing retail/commercial developments in the Central <br /> Business District, Fast Bank Development Area and Tax Abatement Impact Areas. <br /> Mr. Fulmer,Jr. asked the Committee to recommend his request favorably to the full Council. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Varner made a motion, seconded by Council Member <br /> Kirsits, that Bill No. 01-81 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 01-82 which is a five (5) year residential real property tax <br /> abatement request for the property located at 2631 West Jefferson Boulevard requested by Chicago <br /> Building Services, Inc. <br /> Mr. Michael Beitzinger, Economic Development Assistant Director, reviewed his report dated <br /> September 14,2001 (copy attached). He noted that the petitioner plans to construct a 1,200 square <br /> foot home which would be one-story with an estimated cost of $81,500. The report concluded <br /> that the petitioner meets the provisions of§ 2-77.1 of the South Bend Municipal Code addressing <br /> Single Family Real Property Abatement. <br /> Mr. Melvin Reed of 131 South Taylor Street made the presentation on behalf of the petitioner. <br /> In response to a question from Dr. Varner, Mr. Reed noted that he would like to develop other lots <br /> in the area. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Varner made a motion, seconded by Council Member <br /> Kirsits, that Bill No. 01-82 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. <br /> There being no further business to come before the joint Committees, Council Member Kelly <br /> adjourned the meeting at 3:50 p.m. <br /> • <br />
