(Committee ovt: <br /> (Commuttitt alb &atomic kkivzzopmnttt Committing <br /> The October 22,2001 joint meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee was <br /> called to order by its Chairperson Council Member Roland Kelly at 4:13 p.m. in the Council <br /> Informal Meeting Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Varner, White, Kirsits, Aranowski, King, <br /> Ujdak, and Kelly; Michael Beitzinger, Edward C. Levy, Michael Urbanski, Jerry Thoma and <br /> Kathy Cekanski Farrand, Council Attorney. <br /> Council Member Kelly noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Bill No. 01-85 which <br /> is a five (5) year residential real property tax abatement request for the properties located at 208, <br /> 212 and 216 South 35th Street for Edward C. Levy, and Edward and Laura Smith. <br /> Mr. Michael Beitzinger, Economic Development Assistant Director, reviewed his report dated <br /> October 10, 2001 (copy attached). He noted that the petitioners plan to build three 1,486 square <br /> foot homes. Each home would be valued at $ 90,000 for a total project cost of $ 270,000. The <br /> report concluded that the petitioner meets the provisions of § 2-77.1 of the South Bend Municipal <br /> Code addressing single family real property abatement. <br /> Mr. Levy stated that with the abatement they would be able to build upper scale homes that would <br /> fit into the neighborhood. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Ujdak made a motion, seconded by Council Member <br /> Varner, that Bill No. 01-85 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 01-86 which is a five (5) year residential real property tax <br /> abatement request for the property located at 4011 and 4005 Riverside Drive, 1752 Kessler <br /> Boulevard, 1210 and 1214 Sorin Street and 2834 West Calvert Street for G & M Properties, J.C. <br /> And Naomi Davis,Annitte Dyle,and Ernestro Martinez. <br /> Mr. Michael Beitzinger, Economic Development Assistant Director, reviewed his report dated <br /> October 15, 2001 (copy attached). He noted that the petitioner plans to construct five (5) homes, <br /> each with an estimated value between $ 90,000 to $ 110,000. The report concluded that the <br /> petitioner meets the provisions of§ 2-77.1 of the South Bend Municipal Code addressing Single <br /> Family Real Property Abatement. <br /> Mr. Michael Urbanski made the presentation and noted that this evening Jill Sechowski would <br /> make the presentation. A copy of the Limited Power of Attorney was given to the Council <br /> Attorney as required. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Ujdak made a motion, seconded by Council Member <br /> Varner, that Bill No. 01-86 be recommended favorably to Council.
