T ;
Qtomrittve wort:
IX-m=4 anb f inan t Qtolttittittt
The February 26, 2001 meeting of the Personnel and Finance Committee was called to order by its
Chairperson, Council Member James Aranowski at 3:20 p.m. in the Council Informal Meeting
Room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members: Aranowski, King, Kelly, Varner, Ujdak, White
and Kirsits; Community and Economic Development Director Jon Hunt, Terry Bland of the
ifkoutt Omit ZrtbUU*,and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney.
Council Member Aranowski noted that the meeting was called to Bill No. 01-12 which is a
proposed Resolution to encourage the Indiana State Legislature to pass funding mechanisms for
additional local road and street monies.
Council Member Aranowski stated that he filed the Bill so that our local State Senators and State
Representatives would realize that the City of South Bend needs as much assistance as possible in
maintaining its street and road system. He noted that the Bill references two (2) bills which are
currently pe g ndin , namely namel Senate Bill 0258 and House Bill 1811.
Dr. Varner noted that currently a loss of revenue in addition to the supplemental funds not being
provided again is the current reality with regard to street funds.
Council Member King stated that Senate Bill 0339 addresses the Build Indiana Fund and the
Environmental Remediation Revolving Loan Fund with the net result of raising the current $ 30
million to$ 45 million by July 1, 2002, thus providing an increased amount for the City of South
Bend. Council Member King suggested that reference to this Bill also be included in the
Resolution.
Council Member Aranowski asked the Council Attorney to prepare the necessary amendments to
the Resolution for this evening's meeting.
Following discussion, Council Member King made a motion, seconded by Dr. Varner that Bill
No. 01-12 as to be amended be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, Council Member Kelly adjourned
the meeting at 3:25 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Council Member James Aranowski, Chairperson
Personnel and Finance Committee
KCF:kmf
Attachments
•
