Bill NO.23-12 <br /> SPECIAL RESOLUTION NO. 5009-23 <br /> A SPECIAL RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br /> OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, PUBLICLY RECOGNIZING THE INDIANA <br /> ATHLETIC TRAINERS ASSOCIATION AND ACKNOWLEGING THE <br /> MONTH OF MARCH AS NATIONAL ATHLETIC TRAINING MONTH <br /> Whereas,the Indiana Athletic Trainers Association was founded in 1984 as an organization <br /> committed to the education of its members and the enhancement of the profession of athletic <br /> training, creating better health care for the population it serves; and <br /> Whereas, athletic trainers from professional, collegiate, and high school teams; industries; <br /> physician offices; rehabilitation clinics; and every branch of the United States military work <br /> together to promote and practice the profession of athletic training within the City of South Bend; <br /> and <br /> Whereas, athletic trainers have a long history of providing quality health care for athletes <br /> and persons engaged in regular physical activity; and <br /> Whereas, athletic trainers are highly skilled health care professionals who specialize in <br /> immediate, acute, and emergency care; examination, assessment and diagnosis; injury prevention; <br /> risk management; therapeutic intervention; and rehabilitation of injury and illness; and <br /> Whereas, the National Athletic Trainers' Association represents and supports more than <br /> 45,000 members of the athletic training profession, including more than 1,930 athletic trainers in <br /> the State of Indiana; and <br /> Whereas, leading organizations concerned with athletic training and health care have <br /> united in a common commitment to raise public awareness of the importance of the profession of <br /> athletic training and the role of athletic trainers in the provision of quality health care services; and <br /> Whereas, it is the desire of the City of South Bend to promote improved health care for <br /> athletes and all of those who engage in physical activity; and <br /> Whereas, Mayor Mueller has previously proclaimed the month of March as National <br /> Athletic Training Month and called upon the residents of South Bend to recognize athletic trainers <br /> for their honorable work in keeping the community healthy. <br /> Now, therefore, be it resolved, by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br /> as follows: <br /> Section I. The City of South Bend is unique in the availability of both athletic and medical <br /> resources. <br /> Section II. This uniqueness makes it appropriate for the Common Council to acknowledge the <br /> valuable services athletic trainers provide to not only athletes, but to all who need quality health <br /> care services. <br /> Section III. The Common Council joins with Mayor Mueller in recognizing athletic trainers for <br /> their honorable work in keeping the community healthy. <br /> Section IV. The Common Council joins with Mayor Mueller in recognizing the month of March <br /> as National Athletic Training Month. <br />
