r_______________,... ___ <br /> CMmmIty&Economic Development Committee <br /> South Bend Common Council <br /> The May 22, 2000 meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee was <br /> called to order by its Chairperson,Council Member Roland Kelly at 5:20 p.m. in the Council <br /> Informal Meeting Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included: Council Members Aranowski,Kelly,King, Varner,Ujdak, <br /> Coleman and Kirsits;Khadijah Muhammad,Frank Perri, Gunther W. Jordan,Mike Beitzinger, <br /> I Jon Hunt,Robert Hunt, Cassandra Moran,Bob Wozny,Ms. Wozny,Terry Bland of the South <br /> Bend Tribune,Richard Synder,and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. <br /> ii <br /> 1 Council Member Kelly noted that the first item to be reviewed was Bill No. 42-00 which would <br /> appropriate $ 55,000 from the Urban Development Action Grant Fund for predevelopment costs. <br /> Jon R. Hunt,Executive Director of Community&Economic Development made the <br /> presentation. He noted that the funds would be used for costs for the preparation of site plans, <br /> appraisals, feasibility studies,title and survey work, and related items for the development of <br /> potential downtown sites at Main&Jefferson and the River Glenn Office Park, as well as <br /> parking options. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Ujdak made a motion, seconded by Council Member <br /> Kirsits that Bill No. 42-00 be recommended favorably. The motion passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 00-51 which is a ten(10)year real property tax <br /> abatement request for G&B Realty,Inc. for the property located at 1137 South Lafayette <br /> Boulevard. <br /> Cassandra Moran of Community&Economic Development reviewed her report dated May 15, <br /> 2000(copy attached). She noted that the petitioner provides manufactured precision machined <br /> parts and components for diesel engines, fuel injector systems,turbo chargers and air <br /> compressors for trucks. The petitioner plans to build a 10,800 square foot addition to their <br /> current building at a project cost of$350,000. The report concluded that the petitioner meets <br /> the conditions for the requested ten(10)year real property tax abatement under section 2-82.1 of <br /> the South Bend Municipal Code which addresses industrial development in an Urban Enterprise <br /> Zone and in Redevelopment Blighted Areas. <br /> Mr. Gunther W. Jordan,President of G&B Realty,LLC made the presentation. He noted that <br /> this year will be the 30th year of business in the community. They moved to their current <br /> location in 1983 and this is their 11th year of owning Exacto. G&B Realty,LLC bought the <br /> real estate in 1997 and are leasing the property to Exacto. G&B stands for"Gunther"and his <br /> wife"Barbara". <br /> Mr. Jordan noted that his company has a full-time employee trainer and further noted that his <br /> company has earned several awards recently. The GSI award certificate was circulated among <br /> the Committee members.
