Committee deport: <br /> Commuttitp an ( tottomit teVelopmettt Committee <br /> The October 9, 2000 meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee <br /> was called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Roland Kelly at 5:00 p.m. In the Council <br /> Informal Meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Aranowski, Pfeifer, Kelly, King, <br /> Varner, Ujdak, Kirsits and White; Cassandra Moran, Andrew W. Place, Terry Bland of the <br /> *atttlh Akttb Irrihutte,and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. <br /> Council Member Kelly noted that a letter was received from Cassandra Moran, Economic <br /> Development Specialist, dated October 6th requesting that Bill Nos. 00-116, 00-117, and 00-118 <br /> be continued until the October 23rd meeting since the South Bend Redevelopment Commission did <br /> not have a quorum and therefore were unable to take action on these Bills prior to today's <br /> q P <br /> Y <br /> Committee meeting. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 00-119 which is a five (5) year residential real <br /> property tax abatement request for the properties located at 4304, 4323 and 4315 Maple Road; <br /> 4302,4310,4330(or 4327 Maple Road),4340 and 4350 Portage Avenue. <br /> Cassandra Moran,Economic Development Specialist, reviewed her report dated October 4, <br /> 2000 (copy attached). Meadow Wood II, L. P., the petitioner, plans to construct eight (8) homes <br /> in the third phase of Field Point which will range in cost from $ 125,000 to $ 150,000. The total <br /> project cost is projected to be one million dollars. The report concluded that the petitioner meets <br /> the qualifications for a five (5) year residential tax abatement under § 2-77.1 addressing "Singe <br /> Family Real Property Abatement"of the South Bend Municipal Code. <br /> The Petitioner, Mr. Andrew W. Place, stated that this is the last phase of the Field Point <br /> Subdivision. He stated that the residential tax abatement program has worked very well in <br /> encouraging new low and moderate income individuals to consider home ownership and urged the <br /> Council to continue the program in the future. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Ujdak made a motion which was properly <br /> seconded to send Bill No. 00-119 favorably to Council.
