Board of Public Works March 20th, 2023
City of South Bend, Indiana
Honorable Board Members,
The South Bend Police Department is requesting Board approval for the disposal of surplus/obsolete
equipment no longer of use to the South Bend Police Department. The equipment in question are 49
LIFEPAK 500 AEDs.
These AEDs are over twenty years old and are no longer serviceable due to changes in technology and
market availability. Furthermore, SBPD has had to pay a third-party vendor in Florida to provide service
to these older AEDs to keep them serviceable. SBPD has also had to purchase third-party replacement
items to maintain this emergency medical equipment (batteries, pads, etc).

Thankfully, through a combination of grant funds SBPD has been able to procure 50 brand new AEDs to
replace these.
The AEDs would be taken to the Saint Joseph County Household Waste Facility (828 Kerr St.) for
destruction and recycling.

Thank you,

___________________________
PFC Aaron M.
