tommitt t wort:
Verzottttti aub 1ittattte ommitt e
The October 9,2000 meeting of the Personnel and Finance Committee was called to order
by its Chairperson,Council Member James Aranowski at 3:47 p.m. in the Council Informal
Meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members Aranowski,Kelly, King, Ujdak, Pfeifer,
Varner, Coleman, White and Kirsits; City Clerk Loretta Duda, Director of Public Works Gary
Gilot, City Attorney John Broden, Jean Troutman-Poole, Terry Bland of the rEPOUth IfAtt4
ITVibuM and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand,Council Attorney.
Council Member Aranowski noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Bill No.
76-00 which would establish salaries for the Mayor and the City Clerk for calendar year 2001.
City Clerk Loretta Duda made the presentation. She noted that the Mayor's proposed
salary of $ 77,752 and the City Clerk's proposed salary of $ 42,119 represent a 3.5 % increase
over the current salaries.
Council Member White made a motion, seconded by Council Member King that Bill No.
76-00 be recommended favorably. The motion passed.
The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 86-00 which would appropriate$ 508,000 from the
Self-Insurance Fund. City Attorney John Broden made the presentation. He noted that this Bill is
a follow-up to the discussion he had with the Council in Executive Session to discuss two (2)
lawsuits filed against the City. One involved the gun show case at the Century Center and the
other involved a Summer intern working for the Department of Public Works who was killed on
the job. The appropriation would settle both lawsuits.
Council Member King inquired as to what department would be char g ed for the funds for
these settlements. He further suggested that this issue be discussed formally at the Board of
Managers meeting for the Century Center which is scheduled for October 18th. Mr. Broden stated
that he would pass this information on to the City Controller.
Dr. Varner then made a motion, seconded by Council Member King that Bill No. 86-00 be
recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, Dr. Varner adjourned the
meeting at 4:52 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Council Member James Aranowski,Chairperson
Personnel and Finance Committee
KCF:kmf
Attachments
r
