Jasiewicz, Director of Buildings and Grounds for the South Bend
Community School Corporation made the presentation. He noted that the vacations of public
properties are necessary for the needed expansion of the athletic facilities at LaSalle High School.
The school corporation owns lots numbered 421 to 435 and lot numbered 466 to 480. The
expansion will permit the construction of a new football and soccer fields needed for increased
activities and the demands of women's sports programs.
Council Member Kirsits noted that the property north of the affected properties have
abandoned bulldozers on them and have become dumping grounds. Mr. Jasiewicz stated that the
new athletic facilities would be fenced which would hopefully curtail some of the activities of this
type in the area.
Council Member White inquired when the project would be complete. Mr. Jasiewicz stated
that work on the project would begin as soon as school is out for the summer.
Following discussion, Council Member Aranowski made a motion, seconded by Council
Member Kirsits that Bill No. 39-00 be recommended favorably to Council.
