tommitt port: <br /> ub1 c Works air 1Jropert "nation (tommittt <br /> The April 24,2000 meeting of the Public Works and Property Vacation Committee was <br /> called to order by its Vice-Chairperson, Council Member Karl King at 5:25 pm in the Council <br /> Informal Meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Aranowski, Pfeifer,Kelly,King, Ujdak, <br /> Coleman,White and Kirsits;Citizen Member Khadijah Muhammad,James Jasiewicz,Terry Bland <br /> of the&IWO Wnti ttibttt%,and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. <br /> Council Member King noted that the Council has received a letter from Tamara J. Sexton <br /> dated April 20,2000(copy attached) requesting that Bill No. 39-00 addressing the vacation of part <br /> of an alley between William and Taylor Streets be withdrawn. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 34-00 which is a request to vacate two(2) streets <br /> and one(1)alley near Eclipse Place,Keller Street and Kaley. Council Member King noted that the <br /> Board of Public Works received favorable recommendations from the Fire Department, Bureau of <br /> Sanitation, Division of Engineering,Department of Community and Economic Development, the <br /> Area Plan Commission and the Police Department, with those favorable recommendations being <br /> sent with a letter dated April 24, 2000 from the Clerk of the Board of Public Works(copies <br /> attached). <br /> Mr. James A. Jasiewicz, Director of Buildings and Grounds for the South Bend <br /> Community School Corporation made the presentation. He noted that the vacations of public <br /> properties are necessary for the needed expansion of the athletic facilities at LaSalle High School. <br /> The school corporation owns lots numbered 421 to 435 and lot numbered 466 to 480. The <br /> expansion will permit the construction of a new football and soccer fields needed for increased <br /> activities and the demands of women's sports programs. <br /> Council Member Kirsits noted that the property north of the affected properties have <br /> abandoned bulldozers on them and have become dumping grounds. Mr. Jasiewicz stated that the <br /> new athletic facilities would be fenced which would hopefully curtail some of the activities of this <br /> type in the area. <br /> Council Member White inquired when the project would be complete. Mr. Jasiewicz stated <br /> that work on the project would begin as soon as school is out for the summer. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Aranowski made a motion, seconded by Council <br /> Member Kirsits that Bill No. 39-00 be recommended favorably to Council.
