ENGINEERING • ARCHITECTURE • LAND SURVEYING
COVER LETTER

March 14, 2023

Rebecca Maenhout, Project Engineer
City of South Bend
227 W. Jefferson Blvd.
South Bend, IN 46601

RE: REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS – PE Services for Coal Line Trail Phase 3 (Des #2201235)

Dear Ms. Maenhout:

Trails, walkways, and greenways are important aspects of our communities and neighborhoods. They provide
safe, convenient access from their homes and schools between our parks, community centers, businesses,
and neighborhoods. Safe walkways and bikeways provide opportunities to promote a healthy lifestyle and
environmental awareness to everyone who calls South Bend their home.

Projects of this nature contain many pitfalls and challenges that must be managed through the development,
design and permitting process. This process seeks to minimize environmental impacts while creating an
amenity to serve the community for decades to come. Abonmarche will use our experience and local
understanding to anticipate the challenges of this project and work with the City to manage them
successfully.

You’ll find that our team is highly experienced in all aspects of development and design of multi -use trail
projects throughout northern Indiana and Michigan. Our experiences with the Next Level Trails program and
current design work for the Friends of the Pumpkin Vine will prove invaluable to this project. We appreciate
your consideration of our team and look forward to working with the City in making this project a reality.

Sincerely,

ABONMARCHE CONSULTANTS, INC.

Chad Knip, PE
Project Manager
cknip@abonmarche.com
574.314.1018
