The design specifications of the Otto MSD carts will meet virtually all of <br />the specifications outlined in this bid request. <br /> <br /> <br />MANUFACTURING PROCESSES AND MATERIALS: <br />PLASTIC MATERIAL: <br />Base plastic resin must be first quality low-density polyethylene supplied by a national petrochemical <br />producer. <br />The Otto refuse containers are manufactured by an injection molding process. The injection molding process is <br />capable of making products with complex designs that would not be possible by other processes of manufacturing, <br />such as rotational molding and blow molding. Injection molding provides consistency and durability. The injection- <br />molding process requires the use of high density polyethylene (the bid calls for linear low polyethylene which is the <br />proprietary material used in the rotational-molding process). <br /> <br />It is useful to keep in mind that the “minimum property levels” outlined in the bid specifications are references to <br />results from ASTM laboratory procedures that are performed on test samples molded of polyethylene resins and do <br />not in fact establish the strength and durability of an actual container. While all suppliers of rollout refuse carts use <br />polyethylene as their material of choice, each of the different molding technologies (i.e., injection, rotational) requires <br />a different “recipe” (formula) specifically blended to their specific technology. These ASTM tests were designed to <br />help manufacturers select the correct resin formula for their particular molding application by differentiating the <br />physical properties of various resin formulas. <br /> <br />The resin properties described in this bid specification are typical for the resins formulated for use in one particular <br />molding process – rotational-molding. The resin formula that Otto uses to produce the best injection-molded carts <br />will have different laboratory test properties than the rotational-molding grade polyethylene. We have attached a <br />laboratory report detailing the properties of the resins formulated for use in the Otto injection-molded carts. <br /> <br />In reality, the ASTM testing results are only useful if used as a point of comparison between different manufacturers <br />that use the same molding process. <br /> <br /> <br />Otto Environmental Systems <br />12700 General Drive <br />Charlotte, North Carolina 28273 <br />
