Commttt** *sport:
Parks and Recreation Committee
o the Common tomtit of the City of §outb IStu :
The January 10,2000 meeting of the Parks and Recreation Committee was called to order
by its Chairperson, Council Member Charlotte Pfeifer at 4:45 p.m. in the Council informal
meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members: Pfeifer, Kelly, King, Varner, Ujdak,
White,and Coleman; Betsy Harriman,Terry Bland,and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand.
Council Member Pfeifer noted that since there was not a quorum present, that all items
referred to the committee would be reviewed for informational purposes only.
The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 112-99 which would appropriate$75,000 from the
Coveleski Improvement Fund (Fund No. 401).
Betsy Harriman,Administrative Director of the Parks and Recreation Department, made the
presentation. She noted the the money would be used for exterior landscaping, sealing and
striping of three (3) parking lots, interior and exterior painting, refurbishing of the main
lobby and suites, and the installation of additional outfield light fixtures at the Coveleski
Stadium.
Council Member Ujdak noted that the painting of the railing at the Cove is especially
needed. Ms. Harriman noted that the exterior landscaping is the duty of the Park
Department and that the interior landscaping is the duty of the team.
Council President Pfeifer suggested that "anti-crime shrubbery" be utilized since this is a
topic discussed by the Crime Prevention Bureau and various neighborhood groups.
Ms.Harriman noted that such shrubbery would be purchased and that other considerations
included color and maintenance-free items.
Council Member King inquired whether the lease agreement with the team had been
completed. Ms.Harriman thought that it may have been approved at the December meeting
of the Park Board. The Council Attorney requested that copies of the agreement be sent to
the Council, Clerk and herself.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, the meeting was adjourned
at 4:50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Council Member Charlotte Pfeifer, Chairperson
Parks and Recreation Committee
KCF:kmf
Attachments
•
