Comm Wu loop t: <br /> Community and Economic Development Committee <br /> So tit Common Council of the City of iboutb Stab': <br /> The March 8, 1999 meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee was <br /> called to order by Council Member Roland Kelly, Chairperson of the Committee at 4:15 <br /> p.m. in the Council informal meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: Kelly, Pfeifer, King, Sniadecki, and <br /> Coleman; Citizen member Jean Troutman-Poole, Nancy Van Scoyk, Ann Kolata, Alex <br /> Kanig, Ken Fedder, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Council Member Kelly noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Res. No. 99- <br /> 8, which is a five (5) year personal property tax abatement request for the real property <br /> located at 1400 Riverside(Steel Warehouse Company,Inc.) <br /> Nancy Van Scoyk reviewed her report which concluded that the petitioner meets the <br /> requirements for a five (5) year personal property tax abatement. Mr. Larimer of Steel <br /> Warehouse Company, Inc. made the presentation. He noted that this is a new area of <br /> business for his company. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Ujdak made a motion, seconded by Council <br /> Member Sniadecki,that Bill No. 99-8 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion <br /> passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 99-10 which is a resolution approving the findings <br /> of the South Bend Economic Development Commission with regard to the issuance of a$ <br /> 20 million revenue bond for the financing of Southfield Village, Inc. <br /> Mr. Ken Fedder made the presentation. He noted that this is Phase I of a senior living <br /> facility which would also include a 60 bed skilled nursing area. 72 full-time people would <br /> be employed. This is an inducement resolution to meet the applicable sections of the <br /> Internal Revenue Code, with the actual ordinance being acted upon at the March 22nd <br /> Council meeting. Council Member Kelly, a member of the Economic Development <br /> Commission stated that this is a very exciting program for the City of South Bend. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member King made a motion, seconded by Council <br /> Member Sniadecki,that Bill No.99-10 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion <br /> passed. <br /> Council Member Kelly noted that Bill No. 99-11 would be continued. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 99-12 which is a Resolution to authorize the Mayor <br /> to submit to the EPA an application for a Brownsfield Assessment Demonstration Pilot <br /> Grant. Ann Kolata made the presentation. She then introduced a new employee of her <br /> department,Alex Kanig. <br />
