COMM Wu Z port:
Health and Public Safety Committee
lr0 the QCOmmott QCOUIttUY Of the QCitV Of 1•O1ttb /40:
The June 28, 1999 meeting of the Health and Public Safety Committee was called to order
by its Chairperson, Council Member Andrew Ujdak at 5:03 p.m. in the Council informal
meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members: Kelly, Pfeifer, Coleman, Varner,King,
Sniadecki, Hosinski, Pfeifer and Aranowski; Assistant Fire Chief Bert Prawat, Terry
Bland and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand.
Council Member Ujdak noted that the purpose of the meeting is to receive an update from
Assistant Chief Prawat on outdoor fireplaces, pits and chimineas which were discussed at
the last Committee meeting.
Chief Prawat noted that he spoke with the two (2) tenants which had the chiminea which
Mrs. Brownell complained of at the last meeting. He noted that they were very cooperative
and removed it from the premises. He then provided copies of the letter sent on the matter
and the form letter which would be used in the future. He concluded that if such pits,
chimineas, etc are used properly he does not see them as a nuisance. He state that current
regulations are sufficient to address this area of public safety.
In response to a question raised by Council Member Kelly, Chief Prawat noted that Mrs.
Brownell has been updated on this matter.
Chief Prawat noted that the real ongoing public safety problem involves fireworks. He
noted that a hearing is now scheduled for August. The City will issue citations when
violations are brought to their attention.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, the meeting was adjourned
at 5:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Andrew Ujdak, Chairperson
Health and Public Safety Committee
KCF:kmf
Attachments
•
