The Kownover Farmstedd <br />�Iil <br />Summer Kitchen (Cottage) — Windows 4 <br />Goal: <br />Restore/replace window frames on the Summer Kitchen <br />(Cottage). <br />Rationale: <br />Deterioration, poor upkeep and weather have resulted in <br />degradation and gaping openings, and some areas of black <br />mold and animal access to the structure. <br />1910 photo of Summer Kitchen building <br />Style discussion: <br />"Like replacing like" is the guiding principle. <br />Functionality <br />At present, some of the windows are not even functional. <br />Restoration will include functionality. <br />Proposal <br />It has been proposed by my contractor to remove, <br />dismantle, evaluate, replace where necessary (like <br />materials), and finish/restore what can be perpetuated, and <br />then reinstall, properly seal and caulk all junctions with the <br />existing masonry. Care will be used to not disturb the <br />existing masonry upon window removal. Paint choice will Summer Kitchen (Cottage) building today <br />be best attempt at match of current shade. Project includes <br />routine preventive maintenance of cleaning, caulking, and painting of exposed surfaces at soffits and <br />door frames. Restoration project and painting that can be done in climate controlled setting will begin <br />in earnest, but remaining exterior painting will occur in the spring. <br />
