r ' <br /> Commfttss Zsport: <br /> Parks and Recreation Committee <br /> to tljs (ommott touttt ii of tbt CM,tg of 00Utb astt�: <br /> The January 26, 1998 meeting of the Parks and Recreation Committee was called to order <br /> by its Chairperson, Council Member James Aranowski at 4:55 p.m. in the Council <br /> informal meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: Aranowski, Pfeifer, Kelly, Broden, <br /> Varner,Ujdak,Hosinski, Coleman, Sniadecki; Richard Nussbaum, Betsy Harriman,Beth <br /> Leonard, Sue Hodgson citizen member,James Cierzniak, Jon Hunt, Terry Bland, Glenda <br /> Rae Hernandez and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Council Member Aranowski noted that the purpose of the meeting is to review Bill No. 9- <br /> 98 which would appropriate$150,000 from the Coveleski Improvement Fund. <br /> Betsy Harriman,Administrative Director of the Parks and Recreation Department, made the <br /> presentation. She noted that the proposed improvements are in accordance with the <br /> objectives outlined in the "Stadium Use, Management and Operations Agreement." The <br /> following improvements are requested: <br /> 1. Installation of new flooring in the locker rooms for$20,000-$25,000. <br /> 2. Electrical upgrades for a cost of approximately$25,000. <br /> 3. Replacement of exterior wall for approximately$22,000. <br /> 4. An expansion of the picnic garden area with better ADA standards for a cost of <br /> approximately $25,000. <br /> 5. Seating upgrades for a cost of$8,500. <br /> 6. Re-sealing of concrete for a cost of$20,000. <br /> 7. New infield sod for a cost of$4,000 and <br /> 8. New carpet in the press box for a cost of$4,000. <br /> Mr. James Cierzniak spoke in favor of the proposed improvements. He questioned what <br /> the relationship was of the proposed bill to fund 401 which has$300,000 in it. <br /> Mr. Richard Nussbaum noted that the balance in the Coveleski Improvement Fund is <br /> between$480,000 and$490,000. He is unaware of any other appropriations. <br /> Following further discussion, Council Member Hosinski made a motion, seconded by <br /> Council Member Ujdak, that Bill No. 9-98 be recommended favorably to Council. The <br /> motion passed. <br /> Council Member Aranowski then noted that the public sessions on various park proposals <br /> are beginning with meeting at Erskine Golf Course on February 6, 1998. A letter from Mr. <br /> Phil St. Claire, Superintendent of Parks and Recreation will be forthcoming. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer suggested that the meeting location be moved throughout the city <br /> so that all individuals would have availability to attend. She suggested recreation centers <br /> and schools. <br /> Council President Coleman noted that he had invited Glenda Rae Hernandez to be present. <br /> She is interested in being reappointed to the Human Rights Commission. He noted that she <br /> is present and would be unavailable to attend the regular Common Council meeting. There <br /> were no questions asked of Ms.Hernandez. <br />
