Comm Wu St port: <br /> Public Works and Property Vacation Committee <br /> IC0 the common CouitttI of the tag of bouth WO: <br /> The November 23, 1998 meeting of the Public Works and Property Vacation Committee <br /> was called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member David Varner at 3:30 p.m. in the <br /> Council informal meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: Coleman, Aranowski, Kelly, Varner, <br /> Pfeifer,Ujdak, and King; Robert Hunt,Jim Dodge,Terry Bland,John Oxian and Kathleen <br /> Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Council Member Varner welcomed new 4th District Council Member Karl King to the <br /> Committee meeting. <br /> Council Member Varner noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Bill No. 92- <br /> 98 which would amend § 20-72 of the South Bend Municipal Code addressing "Methods <br /> of Parking". <br /> Council President Coleman stated that he sponsored the Bill with Council Member Pfeifer <br /> at the request of Jim Dodge. Mr. Dodge then made the presentation. He stated that he is a <br /> member of ABATE, the political action committee which is a motorcycle rights <br /> organization. He noted that the Senate voted 95-0 on the measure, with the new state law <br /> taking effect on July 1, 1998. <br /> The Council Attorney noted that the ordinance is a housekeeping measure which adds <br /> subparagraph (b)to § 20-72 which would permit a motorcycle to have its rear wheel to the <br /> curb with the front tire facing the flow of traffic. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Aranowski made a motion, seconded by Council <br /> Member Ujdak that Bill No. 92-98 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion <br /> passed. Mr. Dodge added that the 18th Ride for Jerry's Kids brought in $ 148,000 this <br /> year. <br /> There being no further business to come before the Committee,the meeting was adjourned <br /> at 3:40 p.m. <br /> The meeting was then reconvened when James Voll and John Oxian entered the room. Mr. <br /> Voll noted in response to a question raised by Council Member Varner that Memorial <br /> Hospital withdrew its petition for a variance regarding its property adjacent to the Mar-Main <br /> Arms Apartments. Mr. Oxian noted that the Historic Preservation Commission is <br /> interested in designating the Mar-Main Arms Apartment complex an historic landmark. <br /> The meeting was adjourned at 3:42 p.m. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Council Member David Varner <br /> Chairperson,Public Works and Property Vacation Committee <br /> • <br /> Attachments <br />
