Zoning and Annexation Committee <br /> May 12, 1997 <br /> Page 2 <br /> Mr. Bernie Fenney showed site plans for the area. He noted that remonstrators did appear <br /> at the Area Plan Commission. He noted that he has spoken with Mr. William Seybold <br /> regarding drainage and has addressed that and will do so as a part of the official record this <br /> evening. <br /> Mr.John Byorni noted that both the Area Plan Staff and the Area Plan Commission sends <br /> substitute Bill No. 18-97 with a favorable recommendation. <br /> Following discussion Doug Carpenter citizen member made a motion seconded by Council <br /> Member Broden that substitute Bill No. 18-97 be recommended favorably to Council. The <br /> motion passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 27-97 which is a zoning request for property <br /> located between Rogers Street in Washington. Mr. John Byorni noted that the area in <br /> question and the ordinance is an Area Plan Commission initiated ordinance. He noted that <br /> the r ezo nin g wou l d permit the city to reach the goal of the Mayor to have 2,000 new homes <br /> built by the year 2000. Council Member Pfeifer spoke in favor of the proposed rezoning. <br /> Council Member Varner noted that he had received a letter in support of the proposed <br /> rezoning. Residents of the area also spoke in favor with such residents not disclosing their <br /> name or addresses. <br /> Mr. Lee Cotton of the Division of Planning spoke in favor of the proposed rezoning. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer noted that their had been several meetings with the neighbors and <br /> the neighborhood association in this area,and both are in favor of the proposed rezoining. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Varner made a motion seconded by Council <br /> Member Broden that Bill No. 27-97 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion <br /> passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 37-97 which is a rezoning request for the Northeast <br /> corner of New Energy Drive and State Road 23. Mr. Kurt Young made the presentation. <br /> It was noted that this is an Area Plan Commission initiated rezoning which is necessary in <br /> light of the recent annexation of the property. <br /> Council Member Ujdak noted that he attended the neighborhood meeting and he said this is <br /> an appropriate rezoning and spoke in favor of the proposed bill. <br /> Mr.Byorni noted the Area Plan Commission has received a site plan which is typically not <br /> necessary at this stage. <br /> Doug Carpenter spoke in favor of the proposed rezoning. <br /> Following discussion,citizen member Doug Carpenter made a motion seconded by Council <br /> Member Pfeifer that Bill No. 37-97 be recommended favorably to Council.
