Section 4.1 of ANSI Z358.1 specifies that emergency shower heads shall be capable of delivering a <br />minimum of 20 gallons per minute (gpm) of flushing fluid at a velocity low enough to be non -injurious to the <br />user. A sufficient volume of flushing fluid shall be available to supply the flow rate for a minimum fifteen <br />minute period. As such, both temporary and permanently installed eye / body wash stations must provide at <br />least 20 gpm for 15 mins. <br />Inspection and maintenance of eye wash systems should be provided at least weekly by assuring sanitary <br />conditions and /or following the manufacturer's requirements for maintenance. Plumbed systems should <br />also be provided a water flow test to minimize contaminants in the line. Inspection and maintenance should be <br />properly documented. <br />22 <br />
