LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR REDISTRICTING <br /> County Commissioners Establishment Of Precincts <br /> Indiana Code §3-11-1.5-1 et seq requires the County Commissioners to establish <br /> Precincts according to specified rules. <br /> South Bend Common Council Establishment Of Six Council Districts <br /> Indiana Code §36-4-6-3 requires the South Bend Common Council to enact an <br /> ordinance that divides the City into six Districts, which: <br /> "(1) are composed of contiguous territory, except for territory that is not contiguous <br /> to any other part of the city; <br /> (2) are reasonably compact; <br /> (3) do not cross precinct boundary lines, except as permitted in limited situations; <br /> and <br /> (4) contain, as nearly as is possible, equal population." <br /> ACTION TAKEN BY ST. JOSEPH COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> As required after the United States Decennial Census of 2020, the St. Joseph County <br /> Commissioners took action to establish Precincts within St. Joseph County's <br /> incorporated and unincorporated areas. <br /> The Precincts established by the St. Joseph County Commissioners are listed in the <br /> attached Exhibit A, along with the 2020 Census population of each Precinct. <br /> The Precincts and existing South Bend Council Districts are depicted by the printed <br /> map on the following page and by an interactive map accessible on the Internet at the <br /> following URL: <br /> https://stj ocogis.maps.a rcgis.com/apps/webs ppviewer/i ndex.htm l?id=c3 b 788dfcea <br /> b4055982bd125dd4c06d1 <br /> 2 <br />
