Comm f ttt e Z epor t:
Public Works and Property Vacation Committee
to the Common Couutfl of the titt of £ioutb enb:
The February 24, 1997 meeting of the Public Works and Property Vacation Committee was
called to order by its Chairperson, Councilmember David Varner, at 4:15 p.m. in the
Council informal meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Councilmembers Kelly, Aranowski, Pfeifer, Broden,
Varner,Ujdak, Coleman, and Sniadecki; Joe and Mattie Duke,Lenny Kingsbury,Alamo
Adams and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand.
Councilmember Varner noted that the
se of the meeting was to review Bill No. 10-97
Counc purpose g
which is an alley vacation request for the alleys near Edwards Street and Kemble Street.
Mr. Joe Duke made the presentation on behalf of himself and his wife. He noted that the
alley in question has excessive traffic and that there is a public safety concern for his
father-in-law who is 87 years old.
Mr.Lenny Kingsbury and Mr.Alanso Adams of the Sanitation Department noted that they
withdraw their objection to the proposed vacation since the 8 foot alley is not currently
used by the department and all the affected properties currently have drop pick-up. In light
of that concern being withdrawn, Councilmember Varner noted that the Board of Public
Works unfavorable recommendation(copy attached)would be eliminated.
Following discussion by the Committee, Councilmember Aranowski made a motion,
seconded by Councilmember Ujdak, that Bill No. 10-97 be recommended favorably to
Council. The motion passed.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, the meeting was adjourned
at 4::27 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Councilmember David Varner
Chairperson,Public Works and Property Vacation Committee
Attachments
