Page 3 of 3 <br />EXHIBIT A <br />PROCEDURES FOR DESIGNATION AND POSTING OF SNOW ROUTES <br />In order to designate and post snow routes, the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend <br />sets forth the following procedures: <br />1. Pursuant to City of South Bend Municipal Code, Section 20-103, snow routes shall be <br />designated on streets which are heavily traveled and are necessary thoroughfares for the <br />movement of vehicular traffic through the City. Requirements for snow route designation <br />shall include: <br />•Road Designation: Arterial, Collector <br />•Where on-street parking exists <br />•Based on special circumstances requiring snow removal that the City Engineering <br />Division may designate. <br />2. The City Engineering Division shall evaluate the designation and determine the sign design <br />and location(s). <br />3.The snow route sign designs shall be in compliance with the current edition of the Indiana <br />Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. <br />4. The number of snow route signs shall be based on location of on-street parking, road <br />geometry and sight distance, and length of road designated as snow route. <br />5. Upon a request by the City Engineering Division, the Bureau of Traffic & Lighting, Streets <br />Division shall plan to make and install the snow route signs. <br />6. Maintenance of snow route signs: <br />•The City Engineering Division working with the Bureau of Traffic & Lighting, will <br />evaluate the condition of existing snow route signs to determine eligibility for <br />replacement. <br />•The Bureau of Traffic & Lighting shall fabricate and perform all required <br />installation, maintenance, removal and replacement of snow route signs that are <br />located within the right-of-way. <br />7. Removal. <br />•The department shall remove a snow route sign if the street no longer meets the <br />requirements for snow route designation.
