To Whom It May Concern:

Two large trees in our back yard have become a danger not just for risk of property damage, but to us,
our dogs, and (hopefully) our future children. The locust tree is in terrible shape, with smaller limbs
falling regularly, sections with no leaves, large hollow portions, and large portions without bark,
indicating its bad health. Its proximity to our house, along with its bad health, have been causes for
concern to us since moving in last December.

This summer, there were a few occasions where seemingly healthy limbs from the large walnut tree fell
as well. I’ve attached photos of one of these limbs. It fell on a sunny day when I was outside with one of
my dogs. If she had been underneath it, she could easily have been seriously injured or killed. My wife or
I could have been seriously injured. The branch had healthy leaves at the time (the photo was from a
few days later, after we discussed our concern and realized we should document the limb).

That near-miss was the primary reason for our concern for safety for our family, with additional causes
for concern being the large limbs overhanging neighboring houses and the walnuts falling. I’ve been hit
with more than one walnut, and though it just bruised me, our thoughts go towards what would happen
if an infant or toddler were to be hit by one. We love this home and neighborhood and want to feel safe
starting and raising a family here.

Though we’ll miss these trees, particularly the walnut tree, it’s simply a matter of safety at this point.
We hope to replace these trees in the near future, and though it won’t be the same, we’ll be able to feel
safe in our back yard and start the next generation of trees that will be around for decades to come.

Sincerely,

Patrick Guibert
