QC4nuutttu Ztpot`t: <br /> Community and Economic Development Committee <br /> 'g0 tfje COMM tOUttui1 of Os tity of ib0ut1j ign <br /> The September 9, 1996 meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee <br /> was called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Sean Coleman at 5:05 P.M. in the <br /> Council informal meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: Luecke, Kelly, Varner, Zakrzewski, <br /> Coleman,Broden,Washington, and Pfeifer; Don Porter,Larry Magliozzi,Marco Mariani, <br /> Ernie Szarwark,Mike Beitzinger, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> First items on the agenda were to review Resolution Nos. 96-85 which is six (6) year real <br /> property tax abatement request and 96-86 which is a five (5) year personal property tax <br /> abatement request for the properties located at 2424 N. Foundation Drive for Nimet <br /> Industries, Inc. Mr.Mike Beitzinger reviewed the report dated August 26, 1996 from the <br /> Redevelopment Department noting that the petitioner would create nine (9)new jobs with <br /> approximately $1,000,000 of new construction with the petitioner meeting all of the local <br /> criteria for the requested tax abatement. <br /> Mr. Ernie Szarwark,the Attorney for the petitioner made a further presentation. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Luecke made a motion seconded by Council <br /> Member Zakrzewski that Bill No. 96-86 and 96-85 be recommended favorably to Council. <br /> The motion passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Resolution No. 96-80 which is a tax abatement request for <br /> the property located at 3333 W. Lathrop. Mr. Beitzinger reviewed the favorable report <br /> from the Redevelopment Department verifying that Total Industries Limited meets all the <br /> criteria for a five(5)year personal property tax abatement. <br /> Mr. Ernie Szarwark, the Attorney for the petitioner noted that Total Industries Limited <br /> recently bought out the former business which had been highly cyclical. He stated that this <br /> is a premier tool and die company which meets all the local criteria. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Zakrzewski made a motion seconded by Council <br /> Member Broden that Resolution No. 96-80 be recommended favorably to Council. The <br /> motion passed. <br /> Mr. Marco Mariani of the Redevelopment Department then reviewed Resolution No. 96-88 <br /> which involves a lease for the property located at 2214 Mishawaka Avenue for the approval <br /> of the Neighborhood Partnership Center to be located at this location. It was noted that this <br /> would replace the 31st Street location which currently does not have ADA accessibility. It <br /> was noted that if approved this evening, the current lease with REAL Services would be <br /> terminated. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer questioned whether the evening activities would be affected in <br /> light of its location to Stude's. It was stated they did not believe that it would be negatively <br /> impacted. <br />
