Ctommittuu Z4port: <br /> Community and Economic Development Committee <br /> �o <br /> tbt Common Couittil of tit eitV of Eoutb IBtnb: <br /> The April 10, 1995 meeting of the Community and Economic Development <br /> Committee was called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Roland Kelly at 4:15 <br /> P.M.in the Council informal meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: Puzzello, Kelly, Slavinskas, <br /> Zakrzewski, Washington, Coleman, Luecke, Duda, and Ladewski; Doug Carpenter, Bill <br /> Eagan, Mike Beitzinger, Steve Thompson, Bob Richardson, Robert Bugge, Mitch <br /> Heppenheimer,Don Porter, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Council Member Kelly noted that the only item for the Committee to discuss was <br /> Substitute Resolution No. 95-15 which is a tax abatement request for the property located <br /> 2740 Viridian. <br /> Mr. Mike Beiztinger reviewed the report from the Department of Economic <br /> Development and in particular a memorandum dated March 27, 1995. It noted that Test <br /> Design Inc.is requesting a 6 year real property abatement based on new manufacturing.He <br /> noted that he had been in contact with the State Board as well as the Council Attorney with <br /> regard to this amendment. Both entities agreed that it would qualify. He further noted that <br /> the operation would create 16 new jobs and maintain 59 permanent jobs. Mr. Robert Bugge <br /> noted that the main operation is in West Chester, Pennsylvania. They had over 10 million <br /> dollars in sales in South Bend last year and expect to increase the facility by an addition of <br /> 1.3 million dollars. Mr. Steve Thompson noted that the firm relocated to South Bend in <br /> 1989.They currently have 63 permanent jobs, 37 temporary jobs and plan to create 16 new <br /> jobs. He noted that they are currently leasing two other facilities. A video tape was then <br /> shown to the Committee giving further information on their operation. Diagrams and a <br /> architectural rendering were also shown to the Committee. <br /> After much favorable comment, Council Member Puzzello made a motion, <br /> seconded by Council Member Washington that Substitute Resolution No. 95-15 be <br /> recommended favorably to Council.
