atommittu *sport: <br /> Health and Public Safety Committee <br /> IT0 OS QCOmmon tout uUY of the City of §outb Attttt': <br /> The June 12, 1995 meeting of the Health and Public Safety Committee was called <br /> to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Tom Zakrzewski at 3:30 P.M. in the Council <br /> informal meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Coleman, Slavinskas, <br /> Zakrzewski,Kelly,Puzzello,Ladewski,Luecke, and Duda; Chief Luther Taylor,Assistant <br /> Chief Rick Switalski,Terry Bland and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> The first item on the agenda was to review Bill No. 32-95 which would appropriate <br /> $10,500.00 from the HAZ/MAT Fund. Chief Taylor made the presentation.He provided a <br /> packet of information (copy attached). He noted that there is a new HAZ/MAT coordinator <br /> and reviewed the HAZ/MAT-Confined Space breakdown of the items totaling the <br /> $10,500.00 expenditure. Assistant Chief Switalski noted that all of the funds are user fee <br /> generated. <br /> In response to a question raised by Council Member Puzzello it was noted that <br /> approximately$10,000.00 per year is generated into the fund. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Kelly made a motion, seconded by Council <br /> Member Slavinskas that Bill No. 32-95 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion <br /> passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 33-95 which is an appropriation of <br /> $235,000.00 from the Emergency Medical Services Capitol Improvement Fund. Chief <br /> Taylor made the presentation. He noted that part of the appropriation namely$35,000.00 as <br /> a preventive maintenance package on the 10 year old quints in light of the age and mileage <br /> of these vehicles. He noted that they should be able to keep them for 10 additional years. <br /> He further noted that 3 civilian mechanics would do all of the work in house.He also noted <br /> that the exhaust system in the amount of$200,000.00 is needed in light of health and safety <br /> concerns.He reviewed the material in the packet and noted that the Committee had visited <br /> two other communities to see such exhaust systems in place. <br /> In response to a question raised by Council Member Slavinskas it was noted that <br /> the exhaust problem is a growing problem in the fire stations. The cities proposed system <br /> would be an automatic disconnect one when leaving the station. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Kelly made a motion, seconded by Council <br /> Member Slavinskas that Bill No. 33-95 be recommended favorably to Council.
