Klosinski, P.E., Assistant City Engineer SUBJECT: Emergency Repair – Napoleon Street Sanitary Sewer Repair (PO-0018024) Agenda Request – Ratify Emergency Repair Contract DATE: September 19, 2022 The Department of Public Works Division of Engineering and Street/Sewer teams contacted Selge Construction Company to assist with emergency repairs following a sewer collapse and sewer back-up concerns at 417 Napoleon Street. Assessment The root cause of the sanitary sewer collapse was a result of a failed 4-inch clay lateral at the entry point into the 10-inch clay sanitary sewer pipe at the centerline of Napoleon Boulevard. Emergency Repair Scope of Work Selge Construction was contracted to excavate and assist the City of South Bend Engineering to repair the sanitary sewer and lateral connection using 10-inch SDR-35 pipe and fittings to connect the clay lateral. Selge Construction and its paving subcontractor provided base and intermediate pavement. City crews performing milling and paving work in the vicinity of the repair location provided HMA surface and completed the street patch repairs.
