Klosinski, P.E., Assistant City Engineer <br />SUBJECT: Emergency Repair – Napoleon Street Sanitary Sewer Repair <br />(PO-0018024) <br />Agenda Request – Ratify Emergency Repair Contract <br />DATE: September 19, 2022 <br />The Department of Public Works Division of Engineering and Street/Sewer teams contacted Selge <br />Construction Company to assist with emergency repairs following a sewer collapse and sewer <br />back-up concerns at 417 Napoleon Street. <br />Assessment <br />The root cause of the sanitary sewer collapse was a result of a failed 4-inch clay lateral at the entry <br />point into the 10-inch clay sanitary sewer pipe at the centerline of Napoleon Boulevard. <br />Emergency Repair Scope of Work <br />Selge Construction was contracted to excavate and assist the City of South Bend Engineering <br />to repair the sanitary sewer and lateral connection using 10-inch SDR-35 pipe and fittings to <br />connect the clay lateral. Selge Construction and its paving subcontractor provided base and <br />intermediate pavement.
