Qtommttttt Ztport:
Public Works and Property Vacation Committee -
Z0 the Common QtountUY of the Qttti of 0outb tub:
The August 14, 1995 meeting of the Public Works and Property Vacation
Committee was called to order by its Vice Chairperson, Council Member Loretta Duda at
3:40 P.M.in the Council informal meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members: Luecke, Kelly, Slavinskas,
Zakrzewski, Washington, Coleman, Duda, and Ladewski; Andrew Medich, Jeff
Jankowski,Don Porter,and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand.
It was noted that Bill No. 41-95 was requested to be continued by the Petitioners
attorney(copy attached).
The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 39-95 which is a request to vacate certain
property involving the alley vacation near Oak Street and Delaware Street.
The petitioner Mr. Andrew Medich made the presentation. He noted that he
primarily making this request for safety reasons. He stated that his father had owned the
property since 1975 and recently died. Currently he is in the process through the estate
proceeding to own both 418 and 420 North Cottage Grove. He would like to park his
vehicle on the vacant lot legally and this process would be required for that to take place.
He noted that the area in question has had numerous personal assaults, robberies, and
damage to property including vehicles. He believes that the vacation of the alley would
allow him to consolidate the lots.
Council Member Luecke and Council President Ladewski noted that the proposed
Bill received a favorable recommendation from the Board of Public Works(copy attached).
Following discussion, Council Member Kelly made a motion, seconded by Council
Member Zakrzewski that Bill No. 39-95 be recommended favorably to Council. The
motion passed.
Council member Slavinskas questioned whether the Petitioner would be interested
in having the entire alley vacated which was the recommendation of the Area Plan
Commission. The Petitioner noted that there is a problem with regard to contacting the
owners of the other property which he has been unsuccessful with to date.
There being no further business to come before the Committee the meeting was
adjourned at 4:12 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Council Member Loretta Duda
Vice Chairperson,Public Works and Property Vacation Committee
Attachments
