Committee Report <br /> Community and Economic Development Committee <br /> To the Common Council of the City of South Bend <br /> The March 28 , 1994 meeting of the Community and Economic <br /> Development Committee was called to order by its <br /> Chairperson, Councilmember Roland Kelly, at 4 : 30 p.m. in the <br /> Council Informal Meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Luecke, <br /> Washington, Kelly, Puzzello, Slavinskas, Coleman, Duda, and <br /> Ladewski; George Herendeen, Mike Beitzinger, Don Porter, and <br /> Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Council Member Kelly noted that the first item on the agenda <br /> was to review Resolution No. 94-21 which is a request for a <br /> six (6) year real property tax abatement for the property <br /> located at 840 Prairie Avenue. <br /> Mr. Mike Beitzinger reviewed the report dated March 9 , 1994 <br /> from the Community and Economic Development Department(copy <br /> attached) . <br /> It was noted that Matthew R. Dee, is doing business as <br /> United Beverages Inc. The proposed project includes the <br /> construction of an addition to their existing building in <br /> access of 20,000 square feet. The project costs is <br /> $607 , 000 . 00 and would create fifteen (15) new permit jobs in <br /> the first year. He noted that the request qualifies for a <br /> six (6) year real property tax abatement. <br /> Mr. George Herendeen, the attorney for the petitioner, then <br /> made a formal presentation. He provided to the Committee a <br /> hand-out entitled "United Beverage Company of South Bend <br /> Inc. history" (copy attached) . <br /> Following discussion Council member Slavinskas made a <br /> motion, seconded by Council member Ladewski, that Resolution <br /> 94-21 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion <br /> passed. <br /> There being no further business to come before the Committee <br /> the meeting was adjourned at 4 : 35 p.m. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Council Member Roland Kelly <br /> Chairperson, Community and Economic ,Development Committee <br /> attachments <br />
