•
Qtommtttu Ztport:
Parks and Recreation Committee
'go the Common CO=ti of the etti of fouttj tub:
The July 11, 1994 meeting of the Parks and Recreation Committee was called to
order by its Chairperson, Council Member Cleo Washington at 4:50 p.m. in the Council
informal meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members Luecke, Washington, Kelly,
Puzzello, Slavinskas, Zakrzewski, Coleman, Duda, Ladewski; Jeff Rinard, Bill Eagan,
Ron O'Connor, John Rydecki, Kevin Horton, Don Porter, and Kathleen Cekanski-
Farrand.
Mr. Ron O'Connor introduced a new park employee namely, John Rydecki to the
Committee.
The first item to be reviewed by the Committee was Bill No. 66-94 which is a
transfer ordinance among various accounts to various accounts within the Park
Maintenance Fund.
Mr. Ron O'Connor made the presentation. He noted that in 1993 three divisions
were set up namely parks, zoo, and golf. The golf division was established and set up with
$1.55 million dollars. The golf division should have been set up with $1.42 million
dollars. Thus, the need for this ordinance.
Overall, the bill is a"housekeeping bill".Mr. O'Connor noted that lost revenue paid
to the pros totals approximately $77,287; and that the purchase of a vehicle for one of the
pros would be $8,500 dollars.
Council Member Ladewski voiced concern with regard to the opening of the pro
shop and hoped that it would be completed well before the end of the golf season.
Following discussion, Council Member Slavinskas made a motion, seconded by
Council Member Coleman that Bill. No. 66-94 be recommended favorably to Council. The
motion passed.
The Committee then reviewed Bill. No. 67-94 which would appropriate $60,000
from the Park Maintenance Fund.
Mr. Ron O'Connor made the presentation. He noted that the banks would not allow
the City to finance the cost for used golf carts. Thus, the City had to purchase those carts
out right out of the current budgeted amount. The proposed appropriation would make up
the difference.
Following discussion, Council Member Coleman, seconded by Council Member
Slavinskas, that Bill No. 67-94 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed.
Under Miscellaneous Business, Council Member Slavinskas questioned how the
revenues were for the golf courses. Mr. O'Connor noted as of May cart revenue is down,
but green fees are up. He stated that over all revenue is approximately $445,000.00 as of
May, 1994. Approximately, $10,000.00 has been raised as of May on the driving range.
