Zoning and Vacation Committee
The November 8, 1993 meeting of the Zoning and Vacation
Committee was called to order by its Chairperson Council
Member Lee Slavinskas at 4 :00 p.m. in the Council Informal
Meeting Room.
Persons in attendance included Luecke, Washington, Kelly,
Puzzello, Slavinskas, Zakrzewski, Coleman, Duda, and
Ladewski; Mike Dansch, Mr. Calvin Murdoch, John Byorni,
Terri Bland, Mr. Ken Kaniewski, Mr. Cary Levin, Mr. Tim
McCollough, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand.
Council Member Slavinskas noted that the first item on the
agenda was to review Bill No. 76-93 which is a zoning
request for the property located at 802 North Olive Street.
Mr. John Byorni then gave the report from, the Area Plan
Commission and noted that at the Commissions meeting of
October 19, 1993 following a public hearing, the Bill was
sent to full Council with a unfavorable recommendation.
Mr. Murdock noted that the rezoning request is being made to
allow a three-bedroom apartment. He addressed various
questions from Council Member Washington. Council Member
Coleman stated that he believes it is an appropriate use for
the area.
Council Member Slavinskas stated that there are a number of
other state laws to control the number of individuals living
in the proposed apartments.
Following further discussion, Council Member Coleman made a
motion seconded by Council Member Slavinskas that Bill No.
76-93 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion
failed by a vote of 2-0 with Council Members Puzzello and
Washington abstaining. The abstaining Council Members noted
that they would like to hear the remonstrators this evening.
Following further discussion, Council Member Puzzello made a
motion, seconded by Council Member Washington, that Bill No.
76-93 be sent to full Council without recommendation. The
motion passed.
Council Member Kelly noted that he agrees with Mr. Murdock
that children will play in the streets and that argument
itself doesn't carry much weight.
The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 77-93 which is a
rezoning request for the property located in the 3500 block
of Maple Road. Mr. John Byorni of Area Plan noted that at
the public hearing of October 19, '1993 that the Bill comes
to full Council with a favorably recommendation.
r
