Human Resources and Economic Development Committee <br /> January 11, 1993 <br /> Page 2 <br /> Council Member Slavinskas stated that he believes a message should be sent that if you do <br /> not meet the commitments represented to the City of South Bend with regard to tax <br /> abatement that the City of South Bend will take appropriate action for failure to comply. <br /> He also stated that he is also concerned about the tax relief granted to this location for <br /> "change in use and economic obscelence". This classification resulted in a reduction of the <br /> assessed value from$1,929,480.00 to $643,160.00 for a reduction of 43%. <br /> Council Member Kelly stated that he believes that Toro did not meet their obligation to <br /> retain jobs and for job development as represented to the City. He also stated that a <br /> considerable amount of cost was spent by the City with regard to the property tax <br /> abatements. <br /> Council Member Puzzello stated that there is a pending court case in Yipslanti, Michigan <br /> Where she believes GM is being sued over their failure to follow through on a contract with <br /> regard to jobs. She suggested that we follow this suit. <br /> Council Member Coleman stated that this procedure will be reviewed on a case by case <br /> live to their <br /> 'n did not e u <br /> i and that in this particular case Toro South Bend Manufacturing d up basis <br /> P <br /> commitments. He stated however that LTV is an example of a corporation that did. <br /> Following further discussion, Council Member Slavinskas made a motion. seconded by <br /> Council Member Duda that Resolution Nos. 93-2 and 93-3 be recommended favorably to <br /> Council.
