4, <br /> Committee Report <br /> PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE <br /> To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br /> The October 12, 1992 , meeting of the Public Safety Committee <br /> was called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member <br /> Eugene Ladewski, at 4 : 55 p.m. in the Council Informal <br /> Meeting Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Luecke, <br /> Washington, Kelly, Puzzello, Slavinskas, Zakrzewski, <br /> Coleman, Duda, Ladewski, Assistant Chief Dan Mirocha, <br /> Assistant Chief Bert Prawat, members of the News Media, and <br /> Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Council Member Ladewski noted that the purpose of the <br /> meeting was to review Substitute Bill No. 76-92 which would <br /> appropriate $177, 667 . 00 from the Emergency Medical Services <br /> Capital Improvement Fund. <br /> Assistant Chief Prawat then reviewed the Bill. He noted <br /> that $24 , 667 . 00 reflects the semi-annual lease-purchase <br /> payment, that $65, 000. 00 would pay for the refurbishing of <br /> Engine No. 7, with the remainder being used to purchase fire <br /> equipment for the replacement of a grass truck and four (4) <br /> automobiles. <br /> In response to a question raised by Council Member <br /> Slavinskas it was noted that the $65, 000. 00 would be used to <br /> refurbish Engine No. 1 which will become Engine No. 7. <br /> Assistant Chief Mirocha noted that this vehicle currently <br /> has between 60, 000 to 65, 000 miles and was made in 1983 . It <br /> will be refurbished so that it will have a four (4) person <br /> cab and it should last an additional ten (10) years. It was <br /> also noted that this work would be done in Tipton, Indiana. <br /> In response to a question raised by Council Member Ladewski <br /> it was noted that the grass truck is an old army jeep. Its <br /> replacement will be part of the five (5) year Capital <br /> Improvement Plan. Council Member Kelly questioned whether a <br /> Hummer is being considered, it was noted that a Hummer costs <br /> between $60, 000 to $65, 000. <br /> Following further discussion, Council Member Kelly made a <br /> motion seconded by Council Member Washington that Substitute <br /> Bill 76-92 be recommended favorably to Council.
