s <br /> Committee Report <br /> HUMAN RESOURCES AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE <br /> To the Common Council of the City of South Bend <br /> The Human Resources and Economic Development Committee was <br /> called to order by its' Chairperson, Council Member Roland <br /> Kelly at 4:40 p.m. in the Council Informal Meeting Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: Luecke, <br /> Coleman, Puzzello, Washington, Slavinskas, Kelly, Duda, <br /> Ladewski; Kevin Hughes, James Ongley, James Larkin, Barry <br /> Mangus, Mike Beitzinger, Don Porter, and Kathleen Cekanski- <br /> Farrand. <br /> The first item on the agenda was to review Resolution No. <br /> 92-72 which would designate 4300 Quality Drive an Economic <br /> Revitalization Area for a five (5) year personal property <br /> tax abatement. The Committee also combined this Resolution <br /> with Resoultion No. 92-73 which is a ten (10) year real <br /> property tax abatement request for the property known as <br /> 4300 Quality Drive. <br /> Mr. James A. Ongley, a Vice President of Accuride Indiana, <br /> Inc. , presented a brochure to all Committee Members present <br /> about this Corporation and also presented an example of <br /> their product. He stated that the Company began thirty (30) <br /> years ago in Burbank, California and is family owned. The <br /> Company has over 2000 employees around the world. The <br /> Company plans to have 250 new employees employed in the City <br /> of South Bend with and annual payroll of six million dollars <br /> with an average hourly rate of $9 . 25. He then showed <br /> drawings of the building design. He further stated that the <br /> street name was officially changed this morning by the Board <br /> of Public Works to be known as Quality Drive. The building <br /> is to be complete in mid-June of 1993 . Mr. Mike Beitzinger <br /> reviewed the report from the Department of Economic <br /> Development dated October 20, 1992 (copy attached) . <br /> Mr. Kevin Hughes of Project Future spoke in favor of the <br /> proposed resolutions. Council Member Coleman and Council <br /> President Luecke also spoke in favor of the proposed <br /> resolutions. Council Member Coleman spoke in favor of the <br /> proposed porject and requested that a company official give <br /> additional information at this evening's meeting why the <br /> City of South Bend was chosen over other possible locations <br /> in the Midwest. <br />
