Chapin Park Local Historic District Guidebook <br />Page 31 <br />739 Leland Avenue American Foursquare <br />This house was built in 1923 for William and Martha Blanken- <br />baker, and their daughter, Mabel. William worked as a freight <br />agent and mail carrier for a railroad company. The Blankenbakers <br />lived here into the 1930s. <br />742 Leland Avenue American Foursquare <br />This residence was built between 1919 and 1920 for E. H. and Ida <br />Studebaker. Alice Smith, Ida’s sister, and Mamie Smith, her niece, <br />also lived in the house. By 1930, James Hughes was the principal <br />resident, and by 1938, Allen Hack had purchased the home. The <br />house remained in the Hack family for several decades. <br />745 Leland Avenue American Foursquare <br />This residence was built between 1906 and 1908 for Ryell and <br />Anne Miller. Their children, Bess and Rex, and grandson, Leland, <br />also lived in the house. Ryell was a lawyer, who also dabbled in <br />real estate development; Rex owned a plumbing shop and was <br />widowed by 1910. By 1925, Fred Trumble was listed as the princi- <br />pal resident. <br />747 Leland Avenue Queen Anne <br />Built between 1906 and 1908 as an investment property, several <br />families resided here from 1908 until 1919. Evelyn and LeRoy <br />Jaquith purchased the house by 1919 and resided here until the late <br />1930s when the Jaquiths began to rent out the house. In 1944/45, <br />the house was converted into two apartments and has continued to <br />be an investment property. <br />750 Leland Avenue Ranch <br />Prior to 1940, a house, barn and shop were located on this property <br />but were torn down in 1941. Rex Miller’s plumbing business was <br />once located in the old shop building. The existing ranch house was <br />built in 1955 by Stephen J. Brademas. The Brademas family owned <br />the property into the 1990s. <br />751 Leland Avenue Gabled-Ell <br />Also known as 725 Leland, this house was built around 1897. Iden <br />Romig is listed as the principal resident in 1899. Later residents <br />include Israel J. Staples, Herbert Vanderbeek, John F. Baldwin, <br />Walter and Bertha East, and Eugene and Elizabeth Miller.
