Chapin Park Local Historic District Guidebook <br />Page 27 <br />412 Lamont Terrace Free Classic Queen Anne <br />Ennis Austin designed this house for George and Kate Ware in 1901 <br />as an investment property. John, an employee at the Folding Paper <br />Box Company and an attorney, and Johanna Brownfield were the <br />first residents. They resided here until 1913. Kate Ware sold the <br />house to Walter and Blanche Ash in 1923. <br />413 Lamont Terrace Queen Anne: Spindlework <br />This house was built for George and Kate Ware between 1886 and <br />1889. George Ware was part owner of Sibley and Ware Machine <br />Company until his retirement in 1903. Kate Ware lived here until <br />1907. She then sold the house to Ida and Frank Borst, who owned <br />the property for a short period. Dr. Thomas, a surgeon, and Mrs. <br />Mary Olney lived in the house from 1907 to 1926. <br />414 Lamont Terrace Gabled-Ell <br />According to the Sanborn Fire Insurance maps, this house was built <br />prior to 1899. From 1899 until 1919, the house was an investment <br />property possibly owned by the Fassnacht family. By 1919, Paul <br />Fassnacht had moved into this house and resided here into the late <br />1960s. Early residents include: Horace and Kittie Pike, and Herbert <br />and Ruth Houze. Horace was a bookkeeper; Herbert was a musi- <br />cian and thespian. <br />415 Lamont Terrace Gabled-T <br />Alvin D. Hodson, son of George Hodson, and Alvin’s wife, Anna, <br />purchased this property from Edward Chapin and were residing at <br />this address by 1886. Alvin worked for several South Bend lumber <br />companies including Hodson, Stanfield & Company, the South <br />Bend Lumber Co. and the Indiana Lumber & Manufacturing <br />Company. He and Anna raised five children and had sold the prop- <br />erty to Mrs. Amelia J. McCombs by 1903. <br />418 Lamont Terrace Gabled-T <br />This house was built between 1894 and 1896. Mrs. Anna A. Dodd, <br />the widow of Edwin Dodd, resided in the house in 1896 with her <br />daughter, Winona, a schoolteacher. In 1942, the house was remod- <br />eled into two flats. This house once had a porch along the full <br />depth of the west side.
