Guidebook Chapin Park Local Historic District <br />Page 18 <br />824 Forest Side-Gable Cottage/Queen Anne <br />Fred Keller purchased this property from Edward Chapin in 1892. <br />In August 1895, Keller began construction of the house, and in 1896, <br />he rented it to Charlotte and J. Willard Schidler. Schidler operated a <br />hardware and tin shop before opening the Willard Furniture <br />Company. <br />826 Forest Queen Anne/Shingle Style <br />This house was built between 1904 and 1906 for F. Henry Wurzer, an <br />attorney, and his wife, Catherine Vanderhoof Wurzer. They lived <br />here for less than a decade with three of their four children: Henry <br />F., Mary and Catherine, and a servant, Gladys Matthews, before <br />they returned to Detroit, F. Henry’s place of birth. <br />827 Forest Gabled-T <br />The history of this house could not be compiled before the printing <br />of this booklet. <br />830 Forest Gabled-T/Stick Style <br />Adam Bescherer, a German immigrant, purchased lot 52 from <br />Edward Chapin after July 1890 and built the house by 1891. Adam <br />Bescherer worked as a machinist for Singer Brothers Manufacturing <br />Company. His wife and two children were also born in Germany. <br />The Bescherer family resided here until 1904. <br />831 Forest Gabled-T/Stick Style <br />Charles and Edwin Mills, wholesale fruit dealers, purchased this lot <br />in 1891 and built the house by 1892 as an investment. They sold it <br />shortly afterwards to Julia and William Piepenbrink, a pharmacist <br />and salesman for the South Bend Medical Company. In 1904, Philip <br />and [Edna] Bon Durant, the fourth owners, were residing here. <br />833 Forest Gabled-T <br />George H. Uhler, a stenographer for Oliver, purchased lot 32, <br />Chapin Place by July 1890 and had the house built by 1891. He <br />resided here from 1891 until 1894 when he is listed at 809 Forest. <br />John G. Elliott, a millwright, mechanic and machinist, and his wife, <br />Emma, purchased this house by 1894. John lived here into the late <br />1920s.
