Each subsequent contract cycle, the Common Council has passed an <br />ordinance fixing the maximum wages for Union employees, most recently on October 11, 2021 in Ordinance <br />Number 10816-21 for the term commencing on January I, 2022 through December 31, 2024. <br />Subsequent to this most recent ordinance adoption, on May 24, 2022, the City's Board of Public Works and the <br />Teamsters Union executed a Memorandum of Understanding which requests that the Common Council amend <br />Ordinance Number 10816-21 to provide for a City Residency Incentive for full-time Teamster employees who <br />establish and maintain legal residence within the City of South Bend city limits. The maximum amount of this <br />residency incentive would be set at One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) in the year 2022, and the incentive would <br />be prorated for each month an employee remains both 1) employed by the City of South Bend and 2) resides on a <br />continuous, permanent basis within South Bend city limits. <br />1 will present this bill to the Common Council at the appropriate committee and council meetings.
