Page 2 February 11, 1991 Public Safety Committee Council Member Slavinskas questioned the contractual arrangement in effect with communities needing HazMat services of the City. Assistant Chief Switalski and Chief Taylor noted that the City has a signed contract with the toll road. They also indicated that the City is reimbursed for all equipment or materials that are damaged in such runs. After the $4, 140. 00 appropriation, there should be $4, 300. 00 left in that account. Following further discussion, Council Member Niezgodski made a motion seconded by Council Member Duda that Bill Nos. 10- 91 and 11-91 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. Council Member Soderberg noted that although Resolution No. 91-11 was not formally on the Committee agenda, perhaps some resolution discussion should take place on this. It was noted that this is being sponsored by Council Member Duda and is commonly known as the open container law. Council Member Duda noted that the overall purpose of the Resolution is to indicate to our State Legislators that there is strong local support for responsible State legislation in this area. Council Member Duda noted that Douglas P. Bagarus, President of the F.O.P. South Bend Lodge No. 36, would be a speaker in favor of the Resolution at this evening's meeting. Council Member Puzzello had various questions with regard to the State Bill and stated that the Council should be updated on the progress of any State legislation. Council Member Ladewski noted that he was in favor of such a State law, however did have a concern with regard to enforcement.
