OtIItntttttttt Rr4wr#
PERSONNEL AND FINANCE COMMITTEE
Rio the Q nmmon Moonlit of the (Mg of li,outh fiend:
The April 10 , 1989 meeting of the Personnal and Finance Committee was
called to order by Vice Chair Person Sean Coleman at 3 :35 p.m. in the
Council informal meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members : Puzzello, Luecke , Coleman ,
Slavinskas , and Niezgodski, Dale Balsbaugh, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand.
Council Member Coleman noted that the main item on the agenda was to review
Bill No. 21-89 which would appropriate $5 , 700.00 from the Morris Civic
Auditorium Improvement Fund for the purpose of replacement of the electrical
drop cables to the lighting instruments on the stage at the Morris Civic
Auditorium.
Dale Balsbaugh noted that the current equipment is 67 years old. The
proposal of $5 , 700. 00 was received from Koontz-Wagner which would be for
10 gauge wire and thus would meet the code requirements.
Mr. Balsbaugh also noted that the sign to the Morris Civic Auditorium
has shorted out and has been turned off with the approximate cost of
repair being $2 ,000.00. The Century Center Board of Managers will look
at this issue at its next board meeting. As a result there will be a
further appropriation ordinance filed with the Common Council in the very
near future. He also noted that the stage needs several improvements
since many shows are outgrowing the size of our current stage. There
are many producers who are unwilling to compromise or scale down the
production thus the City of South Bend will lose such performances.
He noted that Redevelopment has had a study done with the final report
due in June of 1989 which studies this need utilizing buildings in the
downtown area.
Following further discussion Council Member Luecke made a motion
seconded by Council Member Puzzello that Bill No. 21-89 be recommended
favorably to Council. The motion passed.
There being no further business to come before the committee, the meeting
was adjourned at 3 : 45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Council Member Sean Coleman,
Vice Chair Person
Personnel and Finance Committee
SC : srk
