Ca nntittnr Et part <br /> HUMAN RESOURCES AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE <br /> • <br /> alu the ennui= Otountf[ of tip City of Don* 1,ttb4 <br /> The May 11 , 1987 meeting of the Human Resources and Economic <br /> Development Committee was called to order by its Chairman, <br /> Councilman Eugenia Braboy at 4 : 15 p.m. in the Council informal <br /> meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included: Councilmen Serge, Braboy, <br /> Puzzell , Taylor , Zakrezewski , Barcome , Paszek, and Voorde ; Ann <br /> Kolata, Ernie Szarwark, Jim Knepp , Glenda Rae Hernandez, Hedi <br /> Robinson, Jon Hunt , Don Inks , Sherry Shane , members of the news <br /> media and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand . <br /> Councilman Braboy noted that the first item on the agenda <br /> was the review of Resolution No. 87-38 which is a personal <br /> property tax abatement for the property located at 3601 Lathrop <br /> Street . <br /> Hedi Robinson then gave the report from the Economic <br /> Development Department. <br /> Mr. James Knepp, the attorney for North American Signs, then <br /> reviewed the petition for personal property tax abatement. He is <br /> seeking a five (5) year abatement for the property in question.. <br /> Mr. Knepp indicated that the petitioner plans to double the <br /> employment at the area, thereby creating thirty (30) new jobs. <br /> The average salary would be $20,000 per year. <br /> Councilman Braboy noted that the petitioner has indicated <br /> their willingness . to work with the Mayor' s Minority Affairs <br /> Council . <br /> Following discussion by the Committee, Councilman Taylor <br /> made a motion, seconded by Councilman Serge, that Resolution No. <br /> 87-38 be favorably recommended to Council. The motion passed. <br /> Councilman Braboy then noted that the second item on the <br /> agenda was to review Resolution No. 87-42 which is a petition for <br /> real property tax abatement for the southeast corner of St. Louis <br /> and Wayne Streets . <br /> Hedi Robinsin then gave the report from the Economic <br /> Development Committee. Mr. Jon Hunt noted that the petition <br /> would be adding a new area to the real property listed as an <br /> economically revitalization area. He indicated that meetings had <br /> been held with the petitioner's attorney as well as with Eugenia <br /> Swartz , Ann Kolata and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand where all <br /> individuals agreed that the area would qualify under the State <br /> law provisions. <br /> FREE PRESS PUSI_ISI4IR6 Co. <br />
