Jefferson Blvd. <br />South Bend, IN 46601 <br /> <br /> <br />RE: REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS – PE Services for Safe Routes to School—Our Lady of Hungary <br />Neighborhood Sidewalks and ADA Ramps (Des #2100025) in the LaPorte District <br /> <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Cavanaugh: <br /> <br />Walkways and sidewalks are important amenities for our communities and neighborhoods. These sidewalks <br />interconnect our neighborhoods and provide convenient routes to church, school, shopping, and human <br />services. Safe and convenient sidewalks provide opportunities for neighbors to interact and access <br />neighborhood amenities, while promoting a healthy lifestyle and benefiting our environment. <br />Safe Routes to School Projects focus on safe and non-discriminatory access to our neighborhood schools. <br />While sidewalk construction is relatively simple in comparison to other public works projects, they contain <br />many pitfalls and challenges, especially when INDOT is involved, that must be managed through the design <br />and approval process. <br />As outlined herein, we have assembled our team based upon the needs of the City and the Neighborhood. I <br />will serve as the Project Manager for this assignment and Zach Hauersperger will serve as the Project Engineer. <br />We will use our experience with similar projects, our experience with INDOT, and our local understanding to <br />anticipate the challenges of this project and work with the City to manage them successfully.
