fhnmmmitrr stpnrt <br /> UTILITIES • <br /> to tilt (gnomon Mooned of tip °Rig of l3nutli Nrnb: <br /> The July 13, 1987 meeting of the Utilities Committee was <br /> called to order by its Chairman, Councilman Al Paszek, at 4:20 p.m. <br /> in the Council informal meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included : Councilmen Serge, Braboy, <br /> Beck, `Puzzel lo, Taylor, Zakrewski, Voorde, Paszek, and Barcome; <br /> Carol Sanders, Bob Niezgodski, James Seitz, Michael Vance, Norman <br /> Primus, Steven Drendell , Wayne Kopec, members of the news media, <br /> and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand . <br /> Councilman Paszek noted that the Committee was to review Bill <br /> No. 65-87 which was a bill to appropriate additional funds in the <br /> amount of $267 , 348.00 within the Solid Waste Operations and <br /> Maintenance Fund, the South Bend/Clay Water Works Operating Fund, <br /> the Sewage Works Operation and Maintenance Fund, the South Bend/ <br /> Clay Sewage Works Operating Fund, and the Century Center Operating <br /> Fund of the City of South Bend for the calendar year 1987. <br /> Mr. Michael Vance then reviewed each of the line items <br /> represented within the bill . He indicated that some of the <br /> charges included additional landfill charges of approximately. <br /> $40,000 in the Solid Waste Delfartment; approximately $128,600 to <br /> cover increased costs of power , bottled gas , and building and <br /> structure repairs in the Sewage Works and Maintenance Fund; <br /> contractual services for Ten-ek; and approximately $20,000 in <br /> chemicals. <br /> Mr. Vance further indicated that matters of sewer repairs in <br /> the Roseland lift station, gross income taxes, and new water main <br /> crossing at the Darden Road bridge for improved pressure were also <br /> being addressed. <br /> In the Century Center , the costs included the heating and <br /> cooling system repairs, various computer costs, utility charges, <br /> and telephone costs. <br /> Councilman Beck inquired into the $50,000 which was received <br /> from the caterer and noted that it would go into capital <br /> improvements. <br /> Following further discussion by the Committee , Councilman <br /> Serge made a motion, seconded by Councilman Taylor, that Bill No. <br /> 65-87 go to Council favorably.
