emm ntitte r#rnr
•
•
inn tie fenmmnn Council of t1, ettn of f vu stub: PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE
The March 10, 1986 meeting of the Parks and Recreation
Committee was called to order by its Chairman Councilman James Barcome
at 4 : 40 p.m. in the council informal meeting room.
Persons in attendance included: Councilmen Taylor, Paszek,
Barcome, Puzzello, Zakrzewski, Voorde, and Braboy; Mr. James Seitz,
Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand and the news media.
Councilman Barcome noted that the purpose of the meeting was to
review Bill No. 21-86 which would appropriate funds in the amount of
$115, 000 from the General Park Fund to the Park Maintenance Fund.
Zr. Seitz noted that the money was necessary to resurface the
tennis courts at Leeper Park. He noted that this would be far more
than color .coating and that it would actually be resurfacing.
He noted that 1985 was a good year for miscellaneous receipts
and especially in the golf course receipt area. $227, 000 was reported
revenue from the Erskine Golf Course.
Councilman Taylor questibnld when the tennis courts at Marshall
• were last resurfaced. Mr. Seitz noted that he has concerns of placing
asphalt over concrete tennis courts. Color coating alone would cost
$4 ,000 per court but this would not address the cracks. He estimated
that it would cost $15,000 to bring the Marshall Courts up to an
acceptable condition. Councilman Taylor noted that Marshall was
included in the bond issue but was later removed. He stated that he
would vote in favor of this appropriation however, requested that Marshall
tennis courts be reconsidered for assistance.
Councilman Braboy also questioned the condition of other
tennis courts throughout the City. It was noted that Studebaker courts
also needed special assistance.
Following further discussion by the Committee, Councilman Taylor
made a motion seconded by Councilman Paszek that Bill No. 21-86 go
to Council favorably. The motion passed unanimously.
Councilman Barcone noted that there was no further business
to come before the Committee. The meeting was therefore adjourned at
4:50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
James Barcome, Chairman
Parks and Recreation Committee
mRe[ Pens PUBLISHING CO.
